Rolling Stock Service Engineer Part Time

Job Purpose:

The purpose of this position is to provide effective engineering and maintenance services for the rolling stock and maintenance vehicles of Dubai Metro. The role focuses on performing preventive and corrective maintenance on various vehicles, including passenger service vehicles, engineering support vehicles, and shunting vehicles.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Rolling Stock Team Leader in preventive and corrective maintenance and minor modifications of rolling stock, including passenger service vehicles, engineering support vehicles, shunting vehicles, and wagons.

  • Conduct routine vehicle inspections, inspecting parts for surface defects, changing consumable items, performing minor repairs, and performing technical cleaning.

  • Ensure the safe system of work is adhered to and work meets the tight maintenance schedules.

  • Test functional performance of electromechanical assemblies using various test instruments, and replace/install electrical and electronic parts in housings or assemblies.

  • Operate metalworking machines and repair, rework, and calibrate hydraulic and pneumatic systems to ensure parts meet operational specifications.

  • Fault diagnostics and component replacement (repair in situ or inside depot) on rolling stock as needed.

  • Follow appropriate maintenance procedures, operating rules, and procedures to ensure compliance with requirements.

  • Wheel truing of rolling stock annually or as required, and perform bogie overhaul by inspecting and repairing components like traction motors, gearboxes, and wheel-sets.

  • Assist with implementing complex systems or new projects as directed by the Rolling Stock Team Leader or senior technical support staff.

  • Be rotated to the First Line Response Technicians team as needed.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records using a computerized maintenance management system.

  • Perform other duties as directed by the Rolling Stock Team Leader and senior staff.

  • Follow the Permit to Work process and perform shift and emergency duties when required.

Knowledge Required:

  • Working knowledge in maintaining and repairing:

    • Car bodies, bogies, suspension, couplers, and draft gears.

    • Propulsion systems, friction brakes, batteries, auxiliary power supply.

    • Electrical systems, car doors, ventilation, air-conditioning components.

    • Train control and monitoring systems for rolling stock.

Key Skills:

  • Good eyesight and normal color vision.

  • Strong mechanical skills and an understanding of rolling stock components.

  • Ability to use and calibrate various electrical, electronic, and mechanical test equipment.

  • Ability to write technical reports and prepare method statements and drawings.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple priorities.

  • UAE driving license (preferred) with driving skills and experience.

Experience:

  • Prior experience in shunting and driving engineering vehicles and/or locomotives is a plus.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Vocational trade certificate or diploma in electrical or mechanical engineering discipline or equivalent.

Additional Information:

  • The role may require working shifts and emergency duties.

  • The position is integral to ensuring the reliability and safety of the rolling stock on Dubai Metro.
