Position Overview:

The Genetic Physician will be responsible for the diagnosis, management, and counseling of patients with a wide range of genetic disorders. The role involves clinical evaluations, interpretation of genetic testing, multidisciplinary collaboration, and patient and family education. The position combines medical practice with ethical sensitivity and technical proficiency in genomics.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Evaluation and Diagnosis

• Take detailed medical and family histories
• Conduct physical exams with a focus on identifying genetic conditions
• Order and interpret genetic tests (e.g., microarray, WES, gene panels)
• Construct pedigrees and assess hereditary patterns
• Patient Management and Counseling
• Develop and manage individualized care plans
• Provide genetic counseling regarding risks, inheritance, and available options
• Offer support and information on prenatal testing, PGD, and reproductive planning
• Address psychosocial and ethical issues surrounding genetic diagnoses
• Laboratory and Technical Work
• Collaborate with laboratories for accurate genetic test interpretation
• Stay updated on developments in genomic testing technologies
• Multidisciplinary Collaboration
• Work closely with pediatricians, neurologists, cardiologists, surgeons, and other specialists
• Participate in care team meetings to coordinate patient management
• Documentation and Reporting
• Maintain detailed, accurate clinical records and genetic counseling notes
• Prepare written summaries and reports for patients and referring physicians
• Research and Education
• Contribute to clinical research in medical genetics
• Participate in training of medical students, residents, or allied health professionals
• Present updates and findings at internal and external forums
• Compliance and Ethics
• Follow all ethical and legal standards, including informed consent and confidentiality
• Maintain readiness for audits and inspections by medical and regulatory bodies

Qualifications:

Education and Certification

• Medical Degree (MD or DO)
• Residency in Clinical Genetics or combined program (e.g., Pediatrics and Genetics)
• Board certification in Clinical Genetics (ABMGG or equivalent)
• Experience and Skills
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities
• Familiarity with genomic technologies and interpretation
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
• Sensitivity to ethical and emotional dimensions of genetic conditions
